A corner pub at the top of Curtain Road, run by Remarkable Pubs, with cask ales and a plain, welcoming bar. A useful meeting point near Old Street.

The Carpenters Arms
A small former Truman's corner pub on Cheshire Street, far enough from Brick Lane to keep a regular crowd. Good real ales, whiskies and natural wine.

The Crown and Shuttle
A Victorian pub on Shoreditch High Street that reopened in 2013 after twelve years shut, with one of the bigger beer gardens in the area. Upstairs is Langley's Yard, a gin bar.

The Culpeper
A Victorian corner pub with rooms that's pioneered the rooftop garden trend before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. Five simple rooms sit above one of Spitalfields' most beloved gastropubs, complete with a greenhouse bar that grows its own cocktail garnishes. Stay here if you want to live like a proper East London local.
The George & Vulture
A tall Victorian pub on Pitfield Street that has poured pints since 1870, with Sodo's sourdough pizza served from the kitchen. Pub quizzes and street-side tables in summer.

The Light Bar
A bar and dining room in the old electricity generating station by Shoreditch High Street station, relaunched in February 2026 under a new independent owner. High ceilings, industrial brickwork and a new kitchen.

The Princess of Shoreditch
A gastropub on a corner of Paul Street, a short walk from Old Street station, with a bar downstairs and a dining room up a spiral staircase. Sister to The Pig and Butcher in Islington.

The Three Crowns
Flower market institution serving exceptional gastropub food alongside local ales. Sunday service synchronizes with the Columbia Road market creating perfect post-shopping pit stops for locals and their dogs.

The Ten Bells
Victorian London's most atmospheric survivor, complete with original tiles depicting hop pickers. Jack the Ripper connections draw tourists but exceptional gastropub food keeps locals coming back.

Well & Bucket
A beautifully restored corner pub at the top of Brick Lane. Craft beer downstairs, cocktails upstairs, and a terrace that catches the afternoon sun perfectly.
