Boxpark Shoreditch: lunch, happy hour and who is cooking now
Boxpark Shoreditch is at 2-10 Bethnal Green Road, E1, directly across from Shoreditch High Street station. It opens at 11am every day and runs until 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11.45pm on Friday and Saturday and 10.30pm on Sunday. Happy hour is 5pm to 8pm, Monday to Thursday only; there is none from Friday to Sunday. If you work within ten minutes of the Tea Building, this is the lunch that needs no planning and the after-work round that needs little planning.
What it is
Boxpark opened in December 2011 on part of the old Bishopsgate goods yard, built from recycled shipping containers stacked over two floors: 60 of them at launch, 40 below and 20 above. Shops trade on the ground floor. The upper deck was reworked in 2017 into the street food floor, and that is where most people go now. The founder was Roger Wade, who started the Boxfresh clothing label.
Who is cooking right now
Traders rotate, so check Boxpark's own trader list before you set your heart on one. As of the end of October 2026 it lists:
- Beast & Field: grass-fed, UK-breed, dry-aged beef as steaks, burgers and sandwiches. The founder has visited more than 20 small farms and buys from regenerative producers.
- FUKO: Korean fried chicken, loaded rice bowls, bao and street snacks, with vegan, vegetarian and halal options.
- Satay Street: Thai and Malaysian, started as a single-dish stall on Brick Lane in 2009 selling chicken satay with peanut sauce.
- Sonny's: toasties, loaded bowls and milkshakes from a 100% gluten-free kitchen founded by a coeliac, so it is safe for coeliacs, not just "gluten-friendly".
- Black Bear Burger, Pizza Social Club, Pasta Evangelists, The Taco House, Greekos Gyros, Dub Pan (burritos and bowls) and Sushi Pops.
- Something sweet: Giuseppe's Tiramisu, Sicilian Pride gelato, Love Churros, The After School Cookie Club and Acai Berry.
- Coffee and tea: Macchiato and Jujuhome Cha.
Wingerz Wingz is listed as coming soon.
How it works
Each trader's page on the Boxpark site has two buttons: book a table and order at your table. In practice that means you can sit down and order from more than one kitchen without anyone queuing at a counter, which is the point when six colleagues want six different lunches. Walk in at lunchtime, or book if you are a group. Boxpark does not publish prices across the site, and they vary by trader.
Lunch
Doors open at 11am, which is early enough to beat the noon rush from the offices on Great Eastern Street and Curtain Road. FUKO pitches itself at "a quick lunch" and "an after work bite", with dishes made fresh to order. If you need to be back at a desk inside 45 minutes, go before 12.30pm.
After work
Monday to Thursday, the 5pm to 8pm happy hour is the reason the upper deck fills with lanyards. It is a better bet early in the week; on Friday there is no happy hour and the crowd changes. Boxpark also runs a year-round programme of live music, quiz nights, comedy and sports screenings, with a separate live sport listing for match nights.
Weekends and bottomless brunch
The bottomless brunch is four hours of entertainment, a meal from one of the traders and 90 minutes of bottomless drinks (Pornstar Martini, Park Punch, Prosecco or a virgin option) from £42.67 a head. It is built for birthdays and hen dos rather than a quiet Saturday.
This weekend and Christmas
This weekend, Saturday 31 October, the Halloween programme is on, with themed brunches and late parties listed on Boxpark's Halloween page. Christmas events are listed from 30 October onwards. For an office party, Boxpark hires out the whole venue (capacity 499, with four bars), half the venue (300, three private bars and its own entrance), the BeatBox Room (50 seated, 70 standing, with a DJ booth and a stage) or the East Terrace (170). Guests choose their food on the night, with no pre-orders.
Getting there
Shoreditch High Street Overground is across the road, so it is also the easiest meeting point in the area for a team coming from different offices. For group bookings and hire, the general enquiries address is shoreditch@boxpark.co.uk.
