The best coffee in Shoreditch
The best coffee in Shoreditch is at Origin on Charlotte Road, EC2A, and Ozone on Leonard Street, just off Old Street roundabout. Both open at 8am or earlier, and both take filter as seriously as espresso. After those, there is Allpress on Redchurch Street for the bakes, Nude on Hanbury Street for a Spitalfields cup, Shoreditch Grind on Old Street for when you need the place to be open after dark, and a laptop-free cafe in an 18th-century house on Fournier Street for when you want to sit with a cup properly.
Origin, Charlotte Road
Origin Coffee at 65 Charlotte Road is the roaster's flagship site. It pours the full range of Origin's monthly feature coffees from a brew bar, under a large illustrated mural, and hosts cuppings and events. Hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm at weekends. Go for the filter: this is where Origin puts its rarest lots in front of people, and the bar is set up for it.
Ozone, Leonard Street
Ozone at 11 Leonard Street has been a fixture in Shoreditch since Ozone first arrived in London. The coffee menu runs rotating single origins on filter, house blends on espresso and guest coffees as they come through the roastery, and a kitchen serves breakfast and lunch until 3pm every day. It opens 7.30am to 4pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 4pm at weekends. You can book on weekdays; weekends are walk-in only, and brunch fills up fast. Time Out notes it is busy upstairs and easier to find a seat downstairs.
Allpress, Redchurch Street
The Allpress Redchurch Espresso Bar is on Time Out's September 2026 list of London's best coffee shops: textbook espresso, filter brews and outstanding bakes, with the pistachio croissant the thing to order. Allpress's main roastery has since moved to a cafe complex in Dalston, so the Shoreditch site at 58 Redchurch Street is now an espresso bar rather than a roastery. The design is minimal, and it is the right stop if you are already walking Redchurch Street for the shops.
Nude, Hanbury Street
Nude Coffee Roasters at 25 Hanbury Street, E1, sits between Brick Lane and Commercial Street. It roasts its own range, from an East blend for espresso to single origins and a limited edition Geisha, and sells beans from £13 a bag. It opens 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm at weekends, which makes it the coffee for a Spitalfields Market morning.
Shoreditch Grind, Old Street
Shoreditch Grind at 213 Old Street was the first Grind cafe, and it is still the useful one on the roundabout: coffee bar, cocktail bar and all-day restaurant in one. It opens at 7.30am on weekdays and 9am at weekends, and stays open until 9pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10pm Thursday to Saturday. Monday and Sunday it closes at 5pm. It keeps a few tables free for walk-ins at all times, and espresso martinis are £5 every Friday. You can order ahead on the Grind app if all you want is a flat white on the way to the Tube.
Townhouse, Fournier Street
For the slow cup, Townhouse at 5 Fournier Street, E1, is a shop of ceramics, books, art and antiques in an early 18th-century house opposite Christ Church, with a cafe on the lower ground floor. It serves home-made cakes, including Queen cakes made from a recipe of the same period as the building. Time Out lists the cafe as laptop-free. The shop opens 11am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday and 11.30am to 5.30pm on Sunday.
When to go
At weekends Ozone does not take bookings, and brunch fills up fast, so arrive at the 8.30am opening if you want a table. If you need coffee after 5pm, Shoreditch Grind is the only one of these still serving.
A short coffee walk
Start at Ozone on Leonard Street at opening, walk on to Origin on Charlotte Road, cross Great Eastern Street and Shoreditch High Street to Redchurch Street for an Allpress croissant, then carry on past Brick Lane to Hanbury Street for Nude, finishing at Townhouse on Fournier Street. Four roasters and one house older than any of them. Allow about half an hour on foot, longer with the stops.
